Káma-Kapúska! Making Marks in Indian Country, 1833–34

Awatíkihu note 5

A band is a Native community formation. They can be equal to villages, as described by Wied-Neuwied, but they can also be larger or smaller units that do not correspond to a particular village. Along with clan, language, and tribe, bands operate as coterminal identity markers.
